As co-owners of New England Research Institutes, Drs. Sonja McKinlay (President) and John McKinlay (Senior Vice President and Chief Scientist) have realized their vision of NERI as an internationally respected, independent research organization, known for scientific excellence and integrity. It has become one of the premier research organizations in the U.S.

After earning a doctorate in mathematical statistics, Sonja McKinlay embarked on a highly visible and successful research career, working in cardiovascular and reproductive epidemiology, as well as in the design of clinical trials, cluster unit trials and capture-recapture experiments. Her success was reflected in a Founding Fellowship of the American College of Epidemiology as well as Fellowships in the Royal Statistical Society and the American Heart Association, Epidemiology Section. Her broad-ranging interests have ensured NERI’s continuing growth and diversification, particularly in multi-site, international clinical trials, clinical trial networks and registries. Currently she is co-editing a much needed, non-technical Handbook on designing and implementing clinical trials in the 21st century, and continues to motivate innovative statistical and clinical trial research at NERI, including differential gender results in recent trials.
