Sharon Tennstedt, PhD

In addition to serving as a Vice President and Director of Studies on Aging, Dr. Tennstedt is NERI’s Research Integrity Officer. Since the early 1980s, she has conducted many types of surveys and observational studies, both cross-sectional and longitudinal, behavioral intervention trials and randomized clinical trials on a range of health and health care issues. She has experience with multi-site studies and directs the Data Coordinating Center for several clinical trials.

Dr. Tennstedt has broad-based experience with varying study designs and methodology and is recognized for her expertise in appropriate and successful field methods for older and hard-to-reach populations. She has developed and evaluated numerous multi-media educational programs for both heath care providers and consumers on a range of topics.

Dr. Tennstedt is a member of the National Advisory Council for Nursing Research for the National Institute of Nursing Research. She holds adjunct faculty appointments at the Boston University School of Public Health and at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. She is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and serves on the editorial boards of several peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Tennstedt earned a PhD in medical sociology at Boston University and an MSN in mental-health nursing at Case Western Reserve University.
