Despite advances in the diagnosis and management of chronic pain, practicing physicians still lack clear guidelines for the management of this disorder, with few opportunities to learn more about these diagnoses. This CME-accredited CD-ROM is an interactive educational program to enhance the skills of the primary-care physician, so that he or she can better diagnose and manage patients with chronic pain. Specifically, this program focuses on recognition of non-malignant chronic pain syndromes, the indications, contraindications and risks of opioids for treatment of chronic pain, the indications for the use of non-opioid medications in the treatment of chronic pain and the psychological and social interventions necessary for the successful pharmacotherapy of chronic pain.
