The Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE) is an easily administered and scored research instrument that measures the level of physical activity in individuals aged 65 years or older. Developed with a grant from the National Institute on Aging, PASE comprises self-reported occupational, household, and leisure activities during a one-week period. Designed for use in epidemiologic studies and exercise interventions, the instrument can be administered by telephone, mail, or in person in 5 to 15 minutes.
The package includes a comprehensive manual containing administration instructions, computer code to calculate PASE scores, norms for selected populations, and reliability and validity data. Copies of the instrument are printed in a large, easy-to-read typeface. The development of PASE is described in Washburn, R. A., et. al., The Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE): Development and Evaluation. J Clin Epidemiol. 1993; 46:153-162.
