Self-Efficacy Scale for HIV Risk Behaviors
Instrument
Funded by National Institute on Allergy and Infectious Diseases

Using data from a longitudinal evaluation of an AIDS prevention program, a team of NERI investigators has developed a nine-item self-efficacy scale specifically for risk behaviors related to HIV infection. The questionnaire contains items about condom use, drug use, and negotiations with sexual partners. A Spanish translation is also available. The scale is described in Smith KW, McGraw SA, Costa LA, McKinlay JB. A self-efficacy scale for HIV risk behaviors: development and evaluation. AIDS Education Prev., 1996; 8:97-105.
