Recruitment of participants for pediatric clinical trials presents unique challenges not seen in adult trials.  Limited populations, consent issues, and a lack of validated tools or pediatric equipment are some of the many challenges researchers must overcome.  Of these obstacles, the most troublesome may be the lack of information to assist parents in making the decision to allow their child to participate in a clinical trial. To address this need, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and New England Research Institutes, Inc. (NERI) have teamed to develop a program to provide reliable and sensitive information for parents about trial participation during a time when their child may be sick, premature, dying or in an emergent situation.
