WILMINGTON, Del. & WATERTOWN, Mass. — HealthCore, Inc., the outcomes research subsidiary of Anthem, Inc., today announced that it has acquired NERI, a privately-held, full-service contract research organization, to strengthen its pre-approval research capabilities. “In addition to its experience in early phases of clinical trials, NERI’s unique experience in special populations, including pediatric and minority populations as well as rare, orphan, and underserved diseases, will allow HealthCore to broaden the scope of our real-world evidence development capabilities,” said Marcus Wilson, president of HealthCore. “NERI’s team has an expertise that complements our existing services, and in some cases, allows us to provide research services that we haven’t been able to offer in the past.”
Watertown, MA, January 25, 2016 – New England Research Institutes (NERI) is a key partner in a recent $23.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to Boston University that funds the Boston University Clinical and Translational Science Institute to train and support scientists conducting cutting-edge clinical research. The aim of the Institute is to stimulate “translational science,” which is the process of turning laboratory discoveries into new treatments, new diagnostics, and improved public health.

Watertown, MA, July 8, 2016 – New England Research Institutes and Gosnold on Cape Cod have created a collaborative partnership to advance innovation in addiction health care and conduct research into promising practices.
“This collaboration will explore addiction research opportunities from pediatric through adulthood, focusing on community based continuing care, prevention, and early identification and intervention efforts,” said Lisa Marceau, Executive Director of New England Research Institutes (NERI). "NERI’s depth of health research expertise and Gosnold’s breadth of addiction treatment knowledge provide an opportunity to modify the approach to addiction research and treatment. This collaboration will integrate multidisciplinary research efforts at the patient, provider, and system levels.”

Watertown, MA, November 2, 2016 – Two educational websites developed by New England Research Institutes (NERI) were recently honored with Silver Awards in a national competition. One website helps educate children and their families about the value of participating in medical research. The other website teaches clinicians about ways to better help veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The Silver Awards were given in the annual W3 competition, which recognizes creative excellence in web sites, videos, and marketing programs. The competition is sanctioned and judged by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts, an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from a "Who's Who" of acclaimed media, advertising, and marketing firms. AIVA members include executives from organizations such as Conde Nast, Disney, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Microsoft, Wired, and many others.

Watertown, MA, November 4, 2015 – An interactive computer game aimed at kids ages 8 -14 that helps dispel misconceptions about medical clinical trials has won honors from three separate organizations. Called The Paper Kingdom, the game was developed by New England Research Institutes (NERI) with a grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).
The Paper Kingdom received a Gold Award of Excellence in the 2015 Communicator Awards for children’s interactive multimedia, for which, NERI competed against programs developed by other health communications organizations. NERI was also named a Finalist in the 58th CINE Golden Eagle Awards for Professional Media and received the award at the CINE Celebrates presentation in New York City, which honored programs across a range of media.
The Paper Kingdom was given two Silver Awards from the W3 competition, one award in the category of games or applications specifically for children, and another in the general category of games and gaming. The W³ Awards honor creative excellence on the web, and recognize the creative professionals behind award-winning sites, videos and marketing programs.

Indianapolis and Ridgefield, Conn. – The first patients have now enrolled in AIRWISE, the world’s largest ever pragmatic clinical trial in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) to study how commonly prescribed medicines may reduce the occurrence of exacerbations of COPD.
